Do you ever have one of those days where every single song that comes up when you hit random on your mp3 player is just stellar? That happened to me today on my lunch break and this was the last song that played just as I was getting back to work.
Vocalist for the band Nathan Gray did an interview about the music video where he talks about the meaning behind the song which was spot on to how you feel when you listen to the lyrics:
"The whole concept of it is about seeing hope from a miserable position, from a depressed situation. It’s not about yea we can do it! It’s more like can we? Its about trying to find the hope within something." (read the whole interview here.)
The idea of "can we?" strikes very close to my own interests. I write all the lyrics for the band Promise of Tomorrow and quite a bit of my writings seem to center around the same theme. It seems cheesy to write down, but Stallone really had the right idea near the end of the last "Rocky" movie where he was telling his son about moving forward. That life is about how many punches you can take and still get up. But sometimes you don't want to get up. The words that I write come from that gap of time where you make the decision, and not everyone gets a happy ending.
